When I saw this one come across the wire I got that uncomfortable pit in my stomach… A band that has provided so much of the soundtrack for my life was almost snuffed out in its entirety last night in Ottawa, Canada. Having pretty much perpetually toured over the last 35 years or so… Nielsen, Zander and company have to be seriously contemplating a break after living through this… Evidently one of their equipment semi’s parked behind the stage was what stopped the canopy from coming completely down on them leaving about a 5′ gap for everyone to crawl out safely. Other than a broken femur for the driver of the semi, thankfully that was the only injury in this entire mess…

Hold On Tight! Here Comes Jane’s…
One of my top 20 bands ever, the thing that’s always been most disappointing about Jane’s Addiction is how long we have to wait for new material… this time around it has been 8 long years since their last studio album, 2003′s Strays… But when a new record is within view, the pain always seems to fade as we now look forward to the September 27th release of The Great Escape Artist featuring the classic Jane’s lineup plus the addition of TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek on bass. Sitek’s work with TVOTR is classic in its own right and I can’t wait to hear what influence he had when melded with the rest of the JA core… he and Navarro are a great pairing stylistically, but Sitek’s purpose was never to become a member of Jane’s Addiction, on that front he’s firmly rooted in his own band… so joining the band part of the way through recording the album was Chris Chaney, definitely a member of the Jane’s family and the bassist for the recording of Strays… Chaney will tour with the band in support of the record.
So ahead of that record release a couple of months off still… comes this video for End to the Lies directed by Alexander Bulkley for Shadow Machine Films… it mixes all of my favorite elements fusing street art with classic rock and roll posing… the erotic iconography Jane’s has always been known for along with stop-motion techniques in weaving it all together… Enough said for now… more to come when the album is out… for now enjoy this initial offering courtesy of Artist Direct.
